My father grew up with the Yaz famiky

Carl was much younger than my father, but my Dad used to play against members of the family in the local legion ball circuit on Long Island. There was a pretty tight Polish community in the Hamptons and Sag Harbor back then 1910’s-1960’s. My Dad was the alpha-athlete at Pierson High in Sag Harbor while Carl Sr was the big dog in Bridgehampton a few years before. Of course, both Carl Sr and my pop were dwarfed athletically by my Uncle Pete’s brother, Ed Danowski. Ed was an All-American QB at Fordham and went on to lead the Giants to two NFL Championships back in the 1930’s.

I remember being amazed that ALL of my relatives in Sag Harbor were and still are die-hard Red Sox fans.
